Most medications are prescribed and dispensed at the time of the consultation and after examination by the veterinary surgeon. Current legislation requires us to carry out regular re-examinations to confirm the usefulness of the medication, accuracy of the dose and the absence of side effects. We require medication checks at least every 3 months, according to the judgement of your vet. There is a charge for this re-examination.
For our pets that require ongoing medication we require 24 hours’ notice to prepare a repeat prescription. This is a service we provide for clients registered with us and for pets we have seen in the last 3 months, or within the year for flea and worm treatments.
We can provide written prescriptions for a modest charge for those clients wishing to source their pet’s medication elsewhere, however, we will still need to see your pet every 3 months. This may not be appropriate if your pet is an in-patient or if treatment is needed immediately.
Medications that we dispense for you do not require a written prescription.
Please ask at any of our branches if you would prefer a written prescription for your pet’s medication.
